Yes. : Until relatively recently Omeprazole was a prescription drug. The otc variant is half-strength. But how do you know it's peptic ulcer disease and not something even more serious? Try to get an endoscopy for diagnosis then look at your rx options. Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, Naproxen etc. Could you have h. Pylori?

ULCER OTC MEDS: In the very old days ulcers were treated with large doses of antacids as there was nothing else.Now we know that most of peptic ulcers are caused by an infection with h pylori bacteria, so to cure an ulcer you need cmbination of two antibiotis and acid suppressing therapy with proton pump inhibiters.Ppis are over the counter but antibiotics are prescription only.
