A member asked:

I was wondering what are the causes of brain aneurysm?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Congenital: The classic teaching has been that there is a congenital defect in the walls of the blood vessels from which the aneurysm arises. This is at the juncture of the vessels usually at the base of the skull in what is called the circle of willis. This allows the growth of the aneurysm over time. This is exacerbated by hypertension or smoking. Persons with polycystic kidney disease have increased risk.
