A member asked:

I was wondering what are some causes and tests for excessive norpinephrine?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pheochromocytoma: Excessive systemic norepinephrine can be caused by a pheochromocytoma (a type of tumor usually found in the adrenal glands). The high norepinephrine levels are suggested by symptoms (high blood pressure, fast heart rate...) and confirmed by laboratory testing of the blood and urine for free metanephrines which are norepinephrine and epinephrine breakdown products.
