Not necessarily: The teen years are some of the most challenging years a person will go through. When a teen experiences depression, a portion will also experience suicidal thinking. A small portion of those who have suicidal thinking will also consider ending their life. Substance abuse may be used to cover up feelings of depression, but there are many other reasons for substance abuse as well.
