Uncertain: Steroid is used to treat the immediate problem which vitamin d supplement would not solve. Whereas it is suspected that there is a link between vitamin d and ms, the link has not been totally proven although some centers have been pushing vit d3 in large doses as a way to reduce ms exacerbation.

Causes of MS: It is not right to think vitamin D deficiency causes MS, but it seems a healthy level of vitamin D helps to prevent symptoms of MS in some people. There are several reports about this, some clinical trials are in progress. Corticosteroid medicine is often used temporarily to stop relapses of MS. It's effects on vitamin D are not relevant, the benefits of using it for a short time are better.

Explanation: Vitamin D deficiency increases risk for MS, but does NOT cause the disorder. If one does have MS, and suffers relapses, steroids can help reverse downturn. But low vitamin D can increase risk for relapses, new MRI lesions, and progressive disability. Suggest your concerns be discussed at length with a neurologist, and if you do have MS, you are advised to start a specific MS medication.
