True: If you have been drinking a lot of caffeinated beverages regularly, you may want to cut them out gradually from your diet. You could start by eliminating any caffeine after 6 pm. Then, no caff after 2 pm. Then, no caff after 10 am. Continue until you are caffeine free. Good luck!

If you are caffeine: Sensitive, then it is possible for caffeine to trigger a panic attack. It is not however very common at the usual doses that people drink. If however you also have generalized anxiety disorder which is a condition of chronic worry about the future and where you do a lot of "what if" thinking, then the caffeine can raise the level of generalized anxiety disorder to a point where it would eventually cross a threshold and panic sets in. That is the most common scenario that i see clinically.Since stopping caffeine suddenly can cause quite miserable headaches that last for approximately one week, i usually recommend that people cut down on the caffeine gradually by eliminating one drink every three or four days until gone.Best wishes and i hope this helps.

Of course it can: Yes, it's true -- especially if your system is very sensitive to caffeine. One of my patients with panic and ocd recently noticed that he felt "wired and panicky" after 1/4th of an energy drink containing caffeine. He had previously and gradually cut down his coffee (and even caffeinated tea) over 2-3 weeks. He was "off" all of it for months before his energy drink "test." :-).
