What is perchlorate and why is it dangerous?

Salts of acid: Perchlorates (clo4-) are salts of perchloric acid. (acid plus base equals a salt plus water.) they are dangerous because they are very potent oxidants. Unless you ingest very high doses they have non specific effects and are regulated in water supplies down to safe levels.
