They can: 2º burns can describe anything just deeper than a 1º burn to burns that act like full thickness burns. The deeper the burn, the more likely it is to result in poor scarring. Also, infection can convert a shallow burn to a deeper burn, so it is important to have good care from a doctor or burn team familiar with both the acute and long-term care of burns.
