Resolving symptoms: Gastroenteritis causes nausea, occasional vomiting and diarrhea and is usually caused by a viral infection or food poisoning. If your stomach is still queasy keep on a bland diet and try flat ginger ale to settle it. If there is diarrhea cut down on roughage and very hot or cold drinks. You should feel better soon.

Should be better: In most cases gastroenteritis should improve within 48 hours, certainly in 72 hours. If you have not yet done so, consult with your pcp. He or she will likely run tests including but not limited to stool exam. If this is a recurrent issue, you may need to consider your diet and avoiding certain types of food groups. Example: avoidance of lactose or gluten are common culprits with many patients.
