ECP: Increased does of birth control pills can be used as emergency contraception. However, the number needed to take depends on the dose in the pill (which varies between pills) so a physician would have to prescribe it. Plan b is an over the counter formulation for emergency contraception that works up to 5 days after unprotected intercourse. The sooner it is taken the better it works.
