My wife has pain in her ear and hands. she has difficulty opening her mouth to eat due to pain.

Very odd: Pain in one ear and both hands is non-physiologic and two things must be going on. In addition, we do not know if the pain elicited by mouth opening is on one or both sides. Nor do we know how long these problems have been going on. Therefore any medical analysis of this problem is kerput.
