Additional training: All psychiatrists finish medical school as do all physicians, and then go on to several years of general psychiatric training in their residencies. For those who specialized in child and adolescent psychiatry, they take an additional two or three years of sub specialty training to become more expert at the developmental needs of children and adolescents.
