Right upper quadrant: The liver is in the right upper quadrant, so a liver ultrasound will focus primarily in that area, but very often additional information is gained by examining all quadrants. In the left upper quadrant, the spleen is there and may be enlarged as a result of liver disease. In the lower quadrants, free fluid, or ascites, may also give information about complications of liver disease.
