Scrambled dna: A simplification: radiation sticks the stands of your dna together like stands of cold spaghetti. The dna still works, but when the cell trois to grow into two cells it can no longer pull the dna stands apart, so that each cell gets a copy. As a result, even though the cancer cells still function, they can no longer grow, and they eventually die.

It depends...: RT is a localized treatment to a specific tumor or part of the body (similar to surgery) versus chemotherapy which travels throughout the body. There are many forms of radiation therapy but the most common uses non-invasive high energy x-rays that are very precise. The treatments are usually only a few min long and delivered daily M-F for 5-6 weeks. Side effects are limited to the site of Tx.
