Aspartame: Is artificial sweetener (ex. Equal) that added to diet drinks and diet food, contains phenylalanine (amino acid). People with genetic predisposition can develop phenylketonuria syndrome (brain dysfunction, seizures, retardation, central and peripheral neuropathies). Milk, eggs and meat contain phenylalanine. If you genetically predisposed, read the food labels to prevent pku.
