IUD: Iud does not cause smelly discharge. There are various conditions that can cause that including vaginal infections and uterine infections. Check your iud with your phsycian to rule out other serious conditions.

It is due to IUD: It is due to copper iud, and the only way to get rid of the smell is to have it removed consult your gynecologist about iud and smell.I have had patients with iud complaining od odor. But there can be other causes like infections, stds etc.Only your gynecologist can tell you what is causing the odor.

It can happen.: A copper iud changes the environment in the uterus. Some women will be prone to odor from changes like bacterial vaginitis (bv); but BV is pretty common. Sexually transmitted infections can cause an odor, the odor may just be from older blood in the uterus as well. There's really no way for us to tell here online; you will need to speak to your doctor, and be seen for a pelvic exam.
