Can a ear infection also cause a bad cough?

Yes: Irritation of the ear canal and tympanic membrane can cause cough due to activation of a referred cough reflex in the ear canal.

Ear infection: It usually works the other way around. The cough comes first and then the ear ache. This is because mucus can be produced by the cough and can get into the ears.
