Thousands of them: There are thousands of recessive disorders. Recessive means that each parent of is a carrier of a condition and has a chance of passing the defective gene on to future children. We all have two copies of all genes (one from dad, one from mom). In recessive conditions one copy is not working but the other one is enough. If a child gets two nonworking copies from parents, they get the condition.
