Through an IV: Although it sounds like a surgery, bone marrow transplantion is done by giving you an IV bag full of stem cells. First, you receive chemotherapy and radiation therapy to wipe out your own immune system.. Then, either your own or someone else's stem cells are given. It used to actually be actual bone marrow that was transplanted, but that's very rare now.
