A member asked:

How effective is heart catheter surgery for atrial septal defect?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Good: If the defect is not overly large, and is located in the center part of the atrial septum (typically an osmium secundum atral septal defect), and there are no associated cardiovascular problems, the short-term and long-term outcomes are very good and catheter based closure is safe in experiences centers.
