A member asked:

What does it mean when someone is binge drinking?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Alcoholism: Binge drinking is often one of the most difficult forms of alcohol abuse to treat. The person often doesn't crave alcohol in between episodes and there can be weeks in between but their weakness is that once they start drinking they cannot stop until he either black out or pass out in many cases. The risks are significant. Alcohol poisoning, car accidents, physical fights other activities that are not remembered the next day have landed many people in jail, some for life as a result of binge drinking.Fortunately, for those who cannot control it, there are treatment options. Medicinal treatment options include campral, daily naltrexone, and monthly injections called vivitrol.Alcohol counseling and psychotherapy and treatment of any accompanying psychiatric condition should also be undertaken.Any physical diseases occurring at the same time should also be addressed. Best wishes.
