Consult ophthalmolog: She needs to be seen by a pediatric ophthalmologist who does cataract surgery. She may need surgery or observation, and it depends on her condition. Majority of time the patient may need surgery to stimulate visual development. Its no that common the incidence is 1.2-6 cases per 10, 000.

Yes: This is a condition that needs prompt attention. If the cataract is large enough to obstruct the vision, it may need removal in order for normal vision to develop. Also, there are sometimes infections that occurred while the baby was in the womb that actually caused the cataract, and if this is the case further investigation and treatment of that infection(s) and its other effects are needed!
