Can there be such a thing as a breast reconstruction specialist?

Yes: In any field in medicine, there is a wide range of physician experience and expertise. A specialist is a physician that develops expertise in a certain area through proper training and continuing education. Anyone can call themselves a specialist, but is is best for this designation to come from referring colleagues. Continual process improvement can lead to optimal outcomes for patients.

Breast surgery: Three basic forms of breast reconstruction exist. You can use your own tissue, implants or a combination of the previous two techniques. Your own tissue can be used in the form of the diep flap, pap flap, sgap flap or fat grafting. Implants can be done in one stage or two stage. Two stage reconstructions are started by placing expanders at the time of mastectomy. I perform over a 100 a year!
