A member asked:

Can you tell me if someone already as hpv, and you get the hpv shot, what will happen?

Shot may still help.: There are more than 100 strains/types of hpv. The hpv vaccines that are available protect against just a few strains. In general, vaccines do not 'fight' hpv stains that a person might already carry, but vaccines might prevent that person from acquiring infections from new / additional strains. Hope that this explanation helps.

Nothing special: There is now a HPV vaccine that can help protect against 9 strains of the virus. If you only have a couple, you could gain protection from the others. It wouldn't help "cure" what you have. Since your age is listed as 47, you are outside the target age (9-26) for the vaccine so you would likely have to pay out of pocket. ( insurance wouldn't cover)
