Recurrent virus: Cold sores are a sore from a virus (herpes simplex). The first episode can happen anytime but differs, usually appearing as small blisters in a close grouping near the lip.After healing, the virus hibernates in nearby nerves.The virus can returns to activity but the sores appear as a patch along the lip.In both episodes, the virus is being shed from the active wound ; be contagious.
