A member asked:

Can you tell me how can antidepressants change your mood or thinking pattern?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Complicated: Antidepressants increase certain neurotransmitters (e.g. Serotonin and norepinephrine) into the synapse between neurons, and down stream effects help both depressive and anxiety symptoms. These changes can reduce the frequency and intensity of these symptoms but not give you insight or skills. The specific gene and region changes responsible are still being researched.
