Strep: Strep and chronic tonsillitis are two different things. Antibiotics will usually help you feel better in 24hrs, with strep. It will also not be contagious, 24 hrs after the first dose of medicine. Chronic tonsillitis is something to talk to your doctor, or ENT specialist about.

Not likely: Our general thinking is that strep throat is no longer contagious after 24 hours of dosing antibiotics. But, it is not unusual for strep symptoms to worsen in the next day after diagnosis before they start to improve. The antibiotic can be dosed by single injection, but the symptoms will still take a day to abate. Hang in there and rest, drink small sips of fluids and take care of yourself?
