Can you tell me what an amsler grid is for on any eye test?

Amsler Grid: Is 1/4 inch graph paper with a dot on it. With each eye, you stare at the dot and pay attention to the lines. If the lines are missing or not straight, mark the area and call you ophthalmologist. This was described by french ophthalmologist marc amsler.
