Yes: A heart transplant surgeon has to be a heart surgeon before doing heart, heart lung and lung transplants. To be a heart surgeon you train 2 or 3 years after being a general surgeon to become a thoracic surgeon. A heart surgeon has to maintain unos criteria to do transplants. (united organ sharing organization) need to be at a transplant center.
