IgA vasculitis: Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is purpura (pinpoint bleeding) in the skin caused by inflammation in blood vessels (vasculitis) of the skin. In 2/3 of the cases, HSP follows an upper respiratory infection. HSP is most common in children & is usually self-limited. In adults HSP has a tendency to be more severe. In a small minority of cases, HSP can cause severe kidney or bowel disease.
