No: but potential serious consequences can include bleeding, open sores, disfigured fingertips, nail brittleness, infections, dental problems, permanent nail loss, pain, interference with personal relationships, shame and guilt, and difficulty with practical tasks such as picking up small objects, taking off earrings or necklaces, or opening food packages. No clubbed fingers though.
