No perfect solution: Some patients have found hair conditioner containing tea tree oil to be helpful although tea tree oil on rare occasions may cause a contact dermatitis.

A 39-year-old member asked:

How can I determine the best days to try to get pregnant?

Dr. Patrick Weix
Specializes in Obstetrics and Gynecology
Many methods.: The week around ovulation is the best time to get pregnant. Having sex daily or every other day during that week gives the same preg rate. If you have regular cycles, 14 days before your cycle should start is the most likely ovulation day. If you can do an ovulation calendar with basal temp check and cervical mucus, that is even more accurate. Ovulation testing kits (available otc) are even better.

What is the best method to find basal body temperature?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Neeoo Chin
Fertility Medicine 40 years experience
Not accurate: As you first wake up place a basal body thermometer underneath your tongue for approximately 3 minutes. A digital thermometer is easier and more convenient. Unfortunately basal body temperature taking is very confusing. Any type of movement or any type of activity prior to awakening in taking the temperature will falsely elevated the temperature. Also when the temperature has risen approximately .6 to 1° ovulation has already occurred.

What the best thing to use on infant heat bumps?

Leave them alone: The best thing to do is to leave them alone. Try to get rid of the offending agent, heat, over bundling; consider an office visit if baby's skin does not improve. It may be eczema or another common childhood rash.

I obsessivly pick sores on my hands and scalp, why can't I stop even though it hurts? Is it anxiety or something else?

Something else: If it 's not irritation (itching) then you probably have dermatillomania, which is just a fancy way of saying you obsessively pick at yourself. This is thought to be related to obsessive-compulsive disorder & may improve on an ssri antidepressant. Cognitive-behavioral therapy might also help. You could also try wearing a hat & gloves (kidding). Anxiety makes it worse.
A female asked:

What are some of the best home remedies for sunstroke?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Ralph Morgan Lewis
Family Medicine 38 years experience
True sunstroke is…: …not a condition to be treated at home; it requires immediate medical attention to lower the body's core temperature so the brain is not permanently damaged. Lesser sun-related illnesses can be treated with cooling, fluids, salt/electrolytes, staying in cool environment. Check with doc as to whether any meds may put you at risk for heat-related problems.
