Can heart failure cause renal failure?

Yes: Heart failure can cause decreased blood flow to the kidneys, causing decreased renal function. Renal failure can also exacerbate heart failure by increasing blood pressure and decreasing salt elimation, resulting in intravascular volume overload, resulting in increased pressure in the chambers of the left side of the heart.

Renal Failure in CHF: Absolutely! the kidneys are totally dependent on blood flowing through them to get oxygen and the nutrients they need to do their work. In addition, blood has to be pumped to the kidneys for them to do their work. If the heart (pump) fails, things do not go well all over the body including the kidneys.
