A member asked:

The docs in the er said i have a pulled muscle in my shoulder, they did no actual tests. if it is a pulled muscle would there be popping and grinding?

No: Popping ; grinding suggests the possibility of internal derangement of the shoulder. A labral tear would be likely.

A shoulder sprain: May be just what's going on. Since it was bad enough for you to go to the er , follow up with your general doctor or get a referral to see an orthopedist or physical medicine or sports doctor. They may perform some special physical examination tests in the office or send you out for imaging studies to rule out any soft tissue injury like tears, subluxations, or dislocations.
