A member asked:

I can only smell through one nostril, why is this the case?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Obstruction: It is normal for congestion to alternate from one side of the nose to the other. This is called the autonomic nasal cycle. If it is a fixed obstruction it could be due to several causes such as septal deviation, turbinate hypertrophy, trauma, scarring, infection, sinusitis, tumor and more. Occasionally the use of decongestant sprays/steroids may help for temporary relief. If it remains, see md.
