Fluids: When you have cough and the mucous is thick or inspissated, good hydration is needed to help with expectoration. Sometimes mucolytics like Guaifenesin help but nothing like hydration. Just be sure it is not only postnasal drip in which other remedies like decongestant and nasal sprays may be used.
