Steroids: The most common treatment for a flare of lupus that was previously well controlled is short term steroids. Other options include treatment of individual symptoms, and no treatment. If the flare-up includes kidney or brain involvement stronger medication such as Cytoxan (cyclophosphamide) or cell pet will be used.

Depends on flare: The answer to this depends on the nature of the flare, what areas are involved and how serious the flare is. Skin disease would be treated much differently than a significant flare of kidney disease you must be followed by your rheumatologist to be evaluated as to the nature of the flare, the severity of it and the appropriatectherapy.
