See below: The primary point is screening for colon and rectal cancer. Most colon and rectal cancers start as polyps. If polyps are found at colonoscopy they are removed. This is good preventative medicine. Other pathologies that can be identified include but are not limited to diverticulosis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn disease and various forms of infectious or ischemic colitis.
