A member asked:

Is it okay to drink alcohol before surgery?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No!: It is never ok to drink alcohol before surgery no matter how nervous you may legitimately feel. Alcohol makes the platelets less effective so you are more likely to bleed for a longer period of time during surgery. This raises the risk of complications. Also, alcohol can mess up your chemistry (electrolytes) which can cause problems with anesthesia & breathing support also increasing complications
