Purging: Both bulimia and binge eating disorder are characterized by eating large quantities of food, rapidly and often to the point of pain. There's a sense of a loss of control during the binge and intense feelings of shame and guilt. Bulimia involves purging (vomiting, exercising, laxatives or restricting) as a compensatory measure to get rid of the food from the binge.
