Strain vs PTX: It is possible to strain a muscle in between your ribs. It is also possible to have a part of your lung collapse. Both of these can be very painful. A partially collapsed lung will usually cause some shortness of breath.

Pulled muscle: He has pulled a muscle in his neck. It hurts now when he moves try a cold ice pack for 20 mins then a warm compress for 20 mins. Rest it for 20 mins then repeat the process while awake. Try Motrin 800 mg 3 times a day for the next few days. The pain should resolve in a few days. Good luck. Feel better.
