Yes. "None".: There is no reason a toddler nor a toddler's family, in the U.S., should have to suffer from influenza. There are "no risks" to getting a shot of individually dosed split-virus (not live) vaccine in the U.S. It's december now. A 17 month-old would have had prior flu shots this jan/feb. People afraid of things will worry about those rare allergic reactions, etc., that can happen with any medicine.

Yes: Overwhelmingly, the benefits of influenza vaccination outweigh the theoretical risks. The most prominent risk, which is extremely rare, is an allergic reaction. I have never cared for anyone who had an allergic reaction to influenza vaccination. On the other hand, I have seen unvaccinated people die of influenza.
