Patches: You want to stop destroying lung tissue with the irritation. Anything that raises and lowers your blood level of nicotine rapidly, like nicotine gum, will make you want to smoke. Try using patches, 7, 14, or 21 depending on how much you smoke. Put the patch on in the morning and leave on until next morning when you replace it. Use for 2 months. Wash clothes, stop alcohol ; coffee.

Set a date to quit: Setting quit date and cutting back a cigarette or two a week to reach the date with no cigarettes seems to help some people. There are medications that you can talk to your doctor about, that might help.
