Water intake: There is evidence that moderately increased fluid intake, above two liters daily, “may in fact benefit the kidney.” it is recommended in cases where patients have had kidney stones. However, aggressively increasing fluid intake is not recommended.

Water kidney problem: If you have severe chronic kidney disease and you drink too much water, fluid retention may occur due to the diseased kidneys not excreting enough water. Loop diuretics may then be needed to help eliminate the excess water.
