"Cold" means virus : Traditionally a "cold" is an upper respiratory illness caused by a virus. Symptoms may include runny nose, sinus congestion, cough, sore throat, fever and body aches. This is contagious. Mucus from the nose may not indicate a "cold" as you implied, but is certainly not normal. You should see a doctor for a more accurate diagnosis. If the mucus is not caused by an infection you are not contagious.
