A member asked:

Why does the body allow cancer to occur & spread? doesn't it go against nature (self preservation)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fallacious thinking: You have an inquiring mind and getting acquainted with the truth about biology, especially at the molecular and evolutionary levels, would be very worthwhile for you. The body has no overriding magic to keep it sound. The immune response to most cancers is negligible, as they are clones of mutated cells with a growth advantage. The destabilized genome allows cancers to mutate and evade defenses.
