Unusual: The usual length of a period is between 2 and 7 days, so to menstruate for 12 days is unusual. If a woman occasionally has a prolonged period that is ok. If the periods are getting longer and longer there may be a hormonal problem, such as lack of ovulation, or something physical such as a polyp or fibroid.
