Ptosis = a falling: Ptosis is a greek word that means 'a falling'. Without anatomic context, by itself the word means nothing. For example, blepharoptosis is sagging of the upper eyelid edge (not excess skin hanging over eyelid), breast ptosis is self explanatory, gastroptosis refers to a sagging stomach, neprhoptosis is a sagging kidney, and visceroptosis is ptosis of any other visceral organ.
