Certain ones: Certain antidepressants, the most notorious one being sertraline, have a plateauing effect. They workwell for a while and then the dose needs to be raised. Occasionally this is seen with Prozac and paxil (paroxetine). This is not however the case with all of the antidepressants. We don't know exactly why this occurs. At some point along the way the medication ultimately winds up being augmented or switched to another antidepressant in a fair numberof these cases.
