A member asked:

What should i do if i have a heroin problem and i heard that i can take methadone to stop. what are the benefits to this..will i be addicted to methadone then too?

Having worked in : Both Methadone maintenance clinics and having treated narcotics addicts with suboxone, i really see no benefit to methadone. Methadone is a narcotic just like a street drug. It is ultimately more expensive in many cases than Suboxone treatment. It is by no means as convenient, and there is a tendency to continually escalate the dose. With Suboxone dosage escalation rarely if ever occurs. Suboxone is much more well-tolerated and you don't have to deal with pick ups at a clinic where you are continually exposed to other narcotic addicts. If you were thinking about going on methadone, please consider the option of suboxone.
